Dyson Launches New Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

It also lets you set up no-go areas and cleaning schedules easily and the vac responded well to voice control. As with any Dyson vacuum cleaner – or any robot vacuum cleaner for that matter – you will have to do a bit of maintenance to keep things working well. I put that ‘good’ in quote marks as it’s a pretty expensive machine.

I have a dog that sheds a lot and has to vacuum every day and the Dyson does an excellent job. I always let it work when I leave, but all too often the app says no connection to the Dyson very annoying!! Thanks to the smart lasers, the vacuum creates a virtual map of the room so it doesn’t skip anything and avoids obstacles. Taking the bin out and emptying it is quick and easy, but it is a small bin and you might have to empty it mid-run if you have particularly dirty carpet.

You can get much cheaper, great performing robot vacuum cleaners such as the Roborock S6 Pure, Roborock S4 Max and the Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge. In the meantime, to find out what we thought of the Dyson 360 Heurist, check out our hands-on review. Or, for more options, have a look at our round-up of the best robot vacuum cleaners we’ve tested.

This model will not necessarily look exactly the same once it’s ready for full release on store shelves. The 360 Eye relies on infrared sensors and a 360-degree standard-definition camera that sits on the top of the vacuum to interpret its surroundings. Nevertheless, this patent show that Dyson is certainly still a brand to watch when it comes to cleaning tech. In my personal experience with the Dyson 360 Heurist Robot Vacuum Cleaner, I’ve found that while the performance in terms of pick-up is good, the design struggles in its intelligence. So it can collect mess, but it can’t navigate as effectively as other brands.

Those LEDs are important, as they ensure the device can navigate in the dark — handy if you want your robovac to clean when you’re out or asleep. The Dyson 360 Heurist can be programmed to work how you want it to, with options to stop the cleaner from becoming stuck on troublesome furniture. Plus, you can set the vacuum power by room to fine-tune your clean.

The Dyson 360 Heurist robot vacuum came out as our favorite—while at the pricey end of the spectrum, its compact design and efficient cleaning on both soft and hard floors made it a great all-rounder. We also really liked the fantastic value offered by the double-duty Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8+ if you’d like your robot to do more than just vacuum the floors. IRobot, on the other hand, argues thatyou clean significantly better bymaking multiple passes from different directions. I tend to believe iRobot on this one (based on reviews I’ve conducted of various robot vacuums), but Dyson vacuums are famous for their ludicrously powerful motors, which may offset that. This makes a reliable addition to any home, proving a consistent cleaner on hard floors and carpet. While its cleaning pattern wasn’t that efficient, the app documents its path so you can see which spots may need tending to manually.

Alternatively, command it ad hoc to pick up crumbs after mealtimes. Robot vacuum cleaners have joined dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers, i.e. the veterans of the cleaning world, in automating pesky chores and minimising hassle. These dust hunting dynamos can zip around your living room with the push of a button saving sore backs all round. Comparing the two against each other though, I would pay for the Roomba 980 before I ever considered the Dyson 360 Eye.

And one final bonus for pet owners, the dedicated pet mode increases cleaning power to compensate for extra hair and the cameras will be on high alert for any unwanted little presents left on the rug. It can even take a photo and send it to you, which is infinitely more appealing that the alternative outcome. There’s also irobot vacuum cleaner Alexa and Google Assistant if barking orders at the help is more your thing. Overall, the Dyson 360 Eye is an expensive, unique product that has what it takes to be the best robot vacuum on the market. Whether it actually works as well as it promises—and whether it can replace your full-size vacuum—remains to be seen.

Thanks to its navigation system, we found it to be far more prudent than your average robot vac, avoiding some of the usual collisions, such as pet bowls, piano pedals, and kitchen plinths. It’s also not as wide as many on the market, although it is taller, meaning that scooting under shark cordless low furniture might be more of a challenge. It still managed to clean under our kitchen plinths though, and we liked that its charging base is compact and unobtrusive. She assessed them for power, weight, functionality, emptying, maintenance and how easy they were to schedule.
